“Media As A critical Tool in Addressing Insecurity in Nigeria”
This was the focus of Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs, Second Quarter 2023 Civil Military Cooperation Media Chat held today, 10th May, 2023 at Patrick Hall, Crispan Hotel, Jos.
The Nigerian Army Department of Civil-Military Affairs (DCMA) is responsible for promoting civil-military relations between the Nigerian military and the civilian population.
The primary aim of the DCMA is to facilitate a positive relationship between the Army and the society it serves, through the provision of a platform for dialogue, cooperation and partnership between the military and civilian authorities, as well as other stakeholders.
The department serves as a liaison between the Nigerian Army and local communities, civil society organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders. It is also responsible for providing support to military operations, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, peacekeeping missions, and security operations.
The DCMA works to educate military personnel on the importance of respecting human rights and the rule of law, as well as the need to operate within the framework of democratic governance. It also helps to promote the welfare of military personnel and their families, as well as foster a positive relationship between the Army and the media.
The Nigerian Army Department of Civil-Military Affairs plays a critical role in ensuring that the Nigerian Army operates in a manner that is responsive to the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people, while also upholding its constitutional mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Various media organizations were participants at the programme which also served as a learning platform for both military officers and media practitioners on reporting issues of conflict and military engagements.
