UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria Visits Mangu LGA community Affected by Deadly Attack to Show Solidarity and Promote Peace

In a show of solidarity and commiseration, the United Nations Resident coordinator in Nigeria , Mr. Matthias Schmale, visited Mangu Local Government area, where some communities recently suffered a deadly attack resulting in the loss of many lives and properties.

Upon arriving Mangu, Mr. Matthias Schmale met the Local Government stakeholders under the leadership of the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Minister Daput, security agencies among other stakeholders in a meeting in search for solutions to the problem of unrest caused by the attack on some communities in the LGA. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of the UN’s commitment to supporting the community in their time of need, while expressing happiness over efforts of the leadership of the community to bring about lasting peace and security in the Area.


During this visit, Mr Schmale also visited some internally displaced persons from the communities attacked, listened to their concerns and grievances. He pledged to work closely with the local government and security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Mr. Matthias Schmale emphasized the importance of promoting peace and reconciliation in the region, and he urged the community members to remain united and resilient in the face of adversity.

In conclusion, Mr. Matthias Schmale re-affirmed the UN’s commitment to working with the government and people of Plateau state to promote peace, security, and sustainable development in the region. He urged all stakeholders to work together towards achieving lasting peace and stability in the community and the wider region.
In this visit was the commissioner of Police Plateau State, CP Bartholomew Onyeka who also spoke on the need to maintain peace also spoke about the police’s continued commitment to securing lives and properties in the area, and the entire state.

The Director General, Plateau Peace Building Agency, Mr Joseph Lengmang appreciates the UN mission coordinator in Nigeria for taking time out from his schedule at the National Institute and Strategic Studies Kuru to identify with the people of Mangu local government over the sad events of the past.
